Full-Frame 8.6K CMOS Sensor

The Sony BURANO 8K Digital Motion Picture Cameras 8.6K sensor is designed to match the exceptional imagery of the 8K VENICE. Furthermore, it features Sony's renowned autofocus technology built-in. These together is a huge bonus for solo operators, especially when working in challenging focusing environments.
To make the BURANO compatible with a vast array of lenses, both Super35 and full-frame modes are offered.

ARRI PL and Sony E Mounts

Featuring a similar rugged and reliable PL- and E-mount system as the VENICE allows you to choose from a wide variety of lenses. Supporting metadata when using Sony E-mount lenses.
The PL mount is compatible with all Super35 and full-frame PL lenses in both spherical and anamorphic versions. It also supports Cooke/I technology for frame-by-frame metadata and ZEISS eXtended Data.

Autofocus

The Sony BURANO 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera is available with Sony E-mount lenses, the BURANO camera's autofocus options include Fast Hybrid AF (phase-detection AF/contrast-detection AF) and Human Eye AF for accurately capturing fast-moving subjects even when you're operating alone.

Image Stabilization

Another first in digital cinema-style capture is the in-camera image stabilisation for both Sony-E and ARRI PL-mount lenses.
A new PL-mount lens provides 3-axis pitch, yaw, and roll stabilisation where you can select from high, low, or off.
E-mount lenses feature 5-axis pitch, yaw, roll, x, and y with active, standard and off settings

Variable ND Filter

When difficult light levels present themselves, solo users can easily adjust their exposure with the built-in electronically variable ND filter. The filter ranges from 0.6 to 2.1 ND for a total of seven stops.

Exceptional Latitude

A massive 16 stops of dynamic range is provided by the 8.6K sensor. This produces images at very low noise, even in almost no light to bright sunlight.
With notable HDR imaging with unprecedented freedom when colour grading is done in post-production.

Dual-Base ISO

The Sony BURANO 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera is designed to excel in low-light HDR capture with dual-base 800/3200 ISOs. The wide exposure latitude ranges from 6 stops over to 10 stops under 18% middle grey, for a total of 16 stops.

Versatile Frame Rates

Multiple resolutions and frame rates are supported, these include full-frame 8.6K at 30 fps, full-frame cropped 6K at 60 fps, Super35 5.8K, and Super35 cropped 4K at 120 fps.

Up to 8K Recording with Multiple Codec Support

Resolutions ranging from HD to 8.6K is supported, hereby the highest quality image is obtained for all productions. The new XAVC H internal recording format is supported using the highly efficient H.265 codec to record 8K files. X-OCN LT for stunning raw images with efficient storage, and both XAVC-I and XAVC-L for UHD 4K and HD.

X-OCN 16-Bit Original Camera Negative

The Sony BUNRANO is ideal for even the most advanced workflow. X-OCN (extended tonal range Original Camera Negative) codecs combine 16-bit precision with moderate bit rates delivering notable colour reproduction in managable file sizes.
X-OCN is supported for multiple resolutions and frame rates up to 8.6K 16:9 30 fps.

Viewfinder/LCD

The Sony BURANO 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera features a detachable VF/LCD combo functioning as both a viewfinder and touchscreen controller. You will also find a handy "Home Button" that replaces the "Big Six" that will be familiar to VENICE users. These include FPS, EI, Shutter, ND, Look, and WB.

Media Type

You will find dual media slots enabling it to record to CFexpress Type B, while it also incorporates one SD card slot for utility functions only.

Interface

The advanced interface includes 12G/6G/3G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HDMI outputs, 3-pin XLR audio Inputs, timecode, genlock, and reference input/outputs, a 1000BASE-T LANC terminal, and built-in, dual-band Wi-Fi.

Lightweight, Compact Form

The Sony BURANO 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera is designed around a chassis and body made from magnesium alloy to withstand the harshest of conditions.
The ventilation system is isolated from the electronics, this is to prevent dust, sand and splashes from reaching the electronics. The fan runs silently and can easily be replaced if needed.
